There is a current trend on my friends list. It seems to consist of people going 'sod that!'

(for those who aren't in that particular circle - every two years in August there is a Discworld convention. For the past 10 years there has been a 'con-in-a-field' in the alternate years, which consists of a few events, lots of beer, tents, and meeting friends. Attendance cost £5. The organisers of said event no longer being in existance, a replacement event was mooted. This has turned out today to be costing in excess of £70)

Along with everyone else, I can't afford that much. I want to get together with people, i'm not fussed about the events. A few people seem to be suggesting alternative arrangements, i'm up for that.

Any surrounding arrangements (that I may have mentioned to a few people, involving Indian food) could still happen, especially if there was a get together somewhere else that weekend... I've got the friday booked off work at the moment.

I want to get together with people too! I haven't seen those people since the Con or before (except for [livejournal.com profile] rpdom who's been for a couple of visits here), and was looking forward to seeing them. So if anyone knows of any alternative arrangements I'd be interested.
I don't think I'll be able to afford the Jamboree now, and am certainly not shelling out £40 for tickets *and* the B&B room tarriff if there are hardly going to be any afpers there! (Like you, I'm not fussed about the events either). Thank goodness my B&B has a fair cancellation policy!

I agree with Tessa. Hmmm...a meet at the Curry Mile in Rusholme, maybe?

Sounds a good idea to me. Dan has been promising one of those for months as it is so it sounds a good enough time for me (:

I'm waiting to see what plans develop; a few have already been suggested. But finding a way to include Mancs in my itinerary would certainly be good. :-)

Mine too, as I haven't seen many of the Manchester based afpers for a long time.

The curry idea was inspired by the fact that the Indian restaurant 150 yards from our house is *really really good* and quite happy to have a large party of people - up to 50 or so!

I have no argument with the curry idea at all. Just waiting to see what else is being proposed for that weekend.

I'll keep an eye out for if the curry idea goes ahead - Indian food and a meet sounds like a good combination!

£70 for the jamboree??? I haven't seen this yet, must look up the stamps forum tonight, it's certainly ridiculous for something that involves staying in a tent. Certainly up for curry in Manchester if I don't go to Wincanton.

Obviously I've only just heard the price of the Jamboree and all the discussion on the matter. I'm up for the finding of an alternative.
